Things You Never Know About Fish & Chips

1. Not all fish and chip shops serve vinegar.

2. Both fish and “husky chips of potato, fried with some reluctant drops of oil” occur in Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities but are not served together.

3. The longest running fish and chip shop still in operation is based in Yeadon near Leeds.

4. That novel was published in 1859 and it was not until 1860 that fish and chips was served in the UK. Before that baked potatoes or bread was usual.

5. Fish and chips are not as unhealthy as you might think.

6. Fish fried in batter had arrived in the UK in the 17th century, so it took 200 years to add chips.

7. The word batter comes from the French word battre, which means to beat - in reference to whisking the flour and water together.

8. The world record for wrapping five 350g portions of chips, with added salt and vinegar, is 48.17 seconds set in Cardiff in 2017.

9. And they were excluded from rationing during WW1 and WW2.

10. At the D-Day landings British troops gave an identifying call of “fish” and replying “chips”.

You Can Make This Chunky Knit Scarf in One Hour.

Around this time last year, oversized knit blankets became a sensation. Both advanced knitters and beginners can make this chain scarf in 60 minutes or less, thanks to this tutorial from BeCoziYou'll need about a pound of chunky merino wool—and that's it.

This neck piece comes together with just your hands, no needles required.

Thanks to its large shape and dense material, this piece is bound to be your best defense against the brutal winter ahead. Perfect for adding texture and a little pizzazz to your favorite fall outfit.

And while the required merino wool tends to be pricey, the cost is well worth it. The super soft material is extra thick and warm in addition to being hypoallergenic, stain resistant, and durable (it stretches well without losing its shape), according to Lauren Aston Designs. No wonder it's so popular!

More advanced knitters can also try their hand at making a chunky infinity scarf, which takes about the same amount of time.

Go grab some colorful wool, set aside an hour this weekend, and check out the full tutorial in the video at the top of the page.

DIY Mini Cupcake Flower Bouquets

Looking for a creative way to brighten someone’s day?
Create these bouquets of mini cupcakes in under 15 minutes using a large rimmed coffee cup and a few easy craft supplies! I just used store bought mini cupcakes, but you could also definitely bake and decorate your own if desired.

DIY Mini Cupcake Flower Bouquets

Supplies Needed for One Bouquet:

  • Directions:

  • Pick a coffee cup large enough for a 4 inch Styrofoam ball or half ball to fit snug and inside and won’t move around.
  • Place Styrofoam ball on top of a couple squares of green tissue paper and press down into cup.
  • Press a toothpick down into the Styrofoam ball on one side, but make sure it still points upward somewhat so the cupcake won’t slide off.
  • Press a cupcake on top of the toothpick.
  • Continue process around the side and in the middle.
  • Add additional pieces of tissue paper around the sides, if desired.
Notes:  I happened to buy all these supplies in-store at Walmart, including the cupcakes, and made sure the Styrofoam half ball I bought fit super tight in the cup when I was picking one to use. I think this same idea could work inside a decorative bowl, or small flower pot too!

How cute would these be as a thoughtful gift for Teacher Appreciation, a Birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or as creative centerpieces at showers or parties? I LOVE how ADORABLE these cupcake flower bouquets turned out and also how quick they were to compile!

5 Old-Times Practice Things that Filipino Still DO!

There were lot of Filipino beliefs that people have abandon. Contrary to popular belief, not all the shocking practices our ancestors used to do have been relegated to the dustbin of history. In fact, these practices—far from being consigned to the schoolbooks—are actually very much in vogue today (some more than others). Here are some example of Filipino Beliefs that still being followed.

1. Inserting “Bolitas” Into The Male Genitals.

Pilik-mata ng Kambing – one of the sexual accoutrements used by Filipinos. Photograph taken from Colors Magazine, January 1997 issue. You might probably have heard how the Filipinos in pre-colonial times used to insert all sorts of implants and adornments into their genitals in order to enhance their partner’s sexual experience; apparently, the practice continues to be observed among members of the sea-faring community.

2.  “Pukpok.”

Known as traditional circumcision, “pukpok” is seen as a coming-of-age ritual for boys and is mostly done in many rural areas across the Philippines.

3. “Kutkot.”

Located in the island of Mindoro, the tribe still observes the practice of “kutkot” where they literally dig up the remains of a loved one a year after his/her death and dress it up in clothes. To make the remains more human, the family bundles it up in clothes to form a mannequin-like figure called a “sinakot.”

4.  Female Circumcision.

Hard to believe, but it’s not only males whose genitals go under the knife in this country. Certain Muslim communities in the south also have their women undergo ritual circumcision called “Pag-Islam” or “Pag-Sunnat.” As we can recall, female circumcision (or Female Genital Mutilation as the World Health Organization calls it) is a hugely controversial practice and has been condemned by many in the international community due to its harmful effects on women. Like its male counterpart, the tradition is said to have been introduced into the country by Muslim settlers, although another theory holds it was the pagan pre-Spanish Filipinos who started the ritual.

5. Whaling.

A little-known fact: our ancestors, especially those living in the coastal areas, used to hunt whales, dolphins, whale sharks, and other large fish and mammals for subsistence. The practice, which was documented as early as the 17th century and became an industry during the different historical eras, was outlawed in 1997after it came under intense international scrutiny.
Unfortunately, no definitive conclusion can be reached as to whether the practice has really been eradicated. On the contrary, anti-whaling advocates concede that the ban may have merely forced the whalers to continue their operations in secret.

That's all i hope you learned a lot of this information. Follow me for more updates.

Fruits And Veggies You Didn't Know Grew Like That

There are lot of Fruits and Veggies that people doesn't know what it's full purpose or what it really is. Here are some few of those fruits and Veggies:

1. Eggplants

Eggplant is low in fat, cholesterol and sodium, and contains nutrients invaluable for good health. Shahla Khan, a senior adjunct professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of North Florida, discusses myths and facts about this fruit.
Myth: Eggplant is a vegetable
Fact: While it’s generally thought of as a vegetable, eggplant is actually a fruit. The eggplant, aubergine, melongene, brinjal or guinea squash is a plant of the family Solanaceae. Eggplant is grown for its usually egg-shaped fleshy fruit and is eaten as a cooked vegetable. Some even consider it a berry.
Myth: Consuming eggplant causes insanity and can be poisonous
Fact: Because eggplant is a member of the nightshade family, people thought the purple bulb variety was associated with the mandrake plant and was poisonous, and if you ate it, you would go insane. Some people also thought nightshade vegetables were harmful because they confused them with “deadly nightshade,” an inedible weed that’s also part of the Solanaceae family. Historically, deadly nightshade has been associated with witchcraft. When ingested in large amounts, it’s believed to cause convulsions or even death. But that has nothing to do with eggplant.

2. Papaya

The Papaya, also called papaw, or pawpaw, is the fruit of the Carica Papaya tree. It is believed to be native to southern Mexico and neighboring Central America.

3. Cashews

Cashew shells are poisonous. Raw cashews are surrounded by a double shell which contain urushiol, a resin that can produce rashes and is toxic to ingest. Cashews are related to pistachios, mangos and poison ivy. The poisonous part of the cashew is the same stuff that makes poison ivy “poison” and is also found in the mango plant.

4. Peanuts

  • The peanut is not a nut, but a legume related to beans and lentils.
  • Peanuts are naturally cholesterol-free.
  • March is National Peanut Month
  • A mature peanut plant produces about 40 pods that then grow into peanuts.

5. Pineapple

  • Pineapples regenerate! You can plant pineapple leaves to grow a new plant.
  • Pineapples contain the bromelain enzyme which can break down proteins, so you can use them to tenderize meat.
  • Hawaii produces about 1/3 of all pineapples in the world.
  • Pineapples are a cluster of hundreds of fruitlets.
  • Pineapples take about 18-20 months to become ready to harvest.
  • Pineapples are native to South America before Christopher Columbus discovered them in 1493.
  • Pineapple is the only edible fruit of its kind, the Bromeliads.
  • One pineapple plant can produce one pineapple at a time.
  • Pineapples ripen faster upside down.

That's all for today. I hope you gain some new information on this blog. Please follow me for more Great and Crazy Information that i'll post next time.

5 Breath Taking Secret Places in the World.

There are still a lot of " Beautiful " Places in the World that is still hidden. However, stumbling upon pretty places in the world is not as difficult as it seems. In fact, while everyone has their own secret vacation spots, giving these places deserved publicity is something long overdue. The most beautiful places in the world to visit are often not the most well known, but the lack of notoriety doesn’t keep them from being the most amazing places to visit. Here are some example that will take your breath with there beauty.

1. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Nested in mountainous Lika region, half-way between the coast and the capital Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes National Park is, along with Dubrovnik, the single most visited site in Croatia. Plitvice Lakes became protected national park back in 1949, and since 1979 the place is also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

2. Kakslauttanen Hotel, Finland

The luxurious resort is in a northern region of the country called Finnish Lapland — 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle. First built in 1999, the roofs of the igloos are made of thermal glass to allow the room to remain warm without disrupting the view. There is
Wi-Fi in the reception area at the hotel, but the igloos themselves are entirely without. Visitors report experiencing a pleasant "digital detox." The hotel has 53 igloos that are meant for two people, and 12 igloos meant for four. A small glass igloo costs €435 euros, or about $512 dollars per night. It is worth to visit.

3. Garajonay National Park, Canary Islands

Garajonay National Parknational park located at the centre of La Gomera island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife provincia (province), in the Canary Islands comunidad autónoma (autonomous community), Spain. The park, created in 1980, occupies about 15 square miles (40 square km) and encompasses the peak of Garajonay (4,869 feet [1,484 metres]) and a small plateau rising 2,600 to 4,600 feet (790 to 1,400 metres) above sea level. Laurel dominates the flora, which includes Azores laurel, Canary holly, and Canary willow. Rare laurel pigeons and long-toed pigeons inhabit the area. Atlantic mists support a lush vegetation that abounds in ferns; lichens and mosses cover tree trunks. The climate is influenced by trade winds and heavy rainfall (more than 31 inches [800 mm] annually). The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986.

4. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory, Australia

This semi-arid land creates a dazzling display for the senses, from the towering red rocks that dot the landscape, to the Desert Oaks, wildflowers, and sporadic pools of water that crisscross this stunning natural wonder.

5Sark, Channel Islands

Sark, French Sercq, one of the Channel Islands, a dependency of Guernsey, located in the English Channel, south of England’s coast. Sark lies 7 miles (11 km) east of Guernsey and about 25 miles (40 km) west of the Cherbourg Peninsula of France. The island, which is 3 miles (5 km) long and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide at its broadest point, consists of two components, Great Sark and Little Sark, which are connected by La Coupée (a 300-foot- [90-metre-] long isthmus that is only about 30 feet [10 metres] wide). The smaller, privately owned island of Brecqhou (Brechou) is separated from Great Sark by the narrow Le Gouliot Channel. Sark is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The island is essentially a plateau rising to 375 feet (114 metres), with a scenic coast encircled by precipitous cliffs. The island has three small harbours: Creux, La Maseline, and Havre Gosselin.
